CEOP Expectations of Trainers

All Thinkuknow (TUK) resources including films, presentations and lesson plans, are provided for free for practitioners across the United Kingdom. We are keen for as many children and young people to be given access to all of the educational materials we produce.

It is important, however, that the messages contained within the TUK resources are delivered within their proper context. Young people’s safety online is an area which requires a degree of sensitivity as the topic can be potentially distressing for children and young people.

As a result we ask that you only use these resources in the form in which they are provided to you. Whilst some of the materials, such as the assemblies can stand alone, we ask that you do not modify the content in any way or display the graphics, or where relevant films, separately from the accompanying materials. YOU SHALL NOT

• Download, reproduce, dispose or display the material (in any medium) for any other purpose than that permitted and you further agree not to modify the material provided;
• Create any derivative work or make any other adaptation
• Modify the content in any way or display the graphics separately from any accompanying text
• Sell, rent or sub-licence material from the website

Delivering the Thinkuknow programme involves presenting sensitive information to young people. Most of our Thinkuknow trainers and those using Thinkuknow materials work with young people every day and are well aware of expected standards of behaviour and appropriate interaction with young people.

To emphasise the importance of proper conduct, however, we ask that all Thinkuknow trainers and those using Thinkuknow materials take note of, and abide by, our code of conduct. This will help us ensure that all young people have a positive experience of Thinkuknow and that none are placed at risk of harm in the course of the delivery of Thinkuknow.

Obligations

When using Thinkuknow materials with children and young people I will:

• Always be professional and maintain the highest standards of personal behaviour at all times
• Recognise the trust that is placed in adults by children. Treat this trust with the highest respect and responsibility
• Work in an open and accountable manner at all times in view of others at all times
• Always use appropriate language and be respectful in any communication
• Not favour or appear to favour any child or show interest in one more than another
• Not discriminate against anyone because of age gender, disability, culture, language, ethnicity, religious beliefs or sexual identity
• Be aware that physical contact with a child or young person may be misinterpreted;

Restrictions

When using Thinkuknow materials with children and young people I will never:

• Be under the influence of drink, drugs or other illegal substances
• Be drawn into inappropriate attention seeking behaviour or make suggestive or derogatory remarks or gestures in front of children or young people;
• Jump to conclusions or make assumptions about others without checking facts;
• Either exaggerate or trivialise child abuse issues;
• Show favouritism to any individual;
• Engage in personal relationships with children and young people or their families
• Allow individuals to gain access to children, without having completed the appropriate checks and processes;

Thank you for using the Thinkuknow resources. You are playing a vital role in educating young people in using new technologies in safely.

CEOP provide a wide range of educational materials for use, for free, by practitioners across the UK. We also provide advice, guidance and support for everyone using these resources. In return we have a small number of expectations of all using CEOP Thinkuknow resources which we hope you will feel able to meet.

Trainers and all those using Thinkuknow resources can expect the following from CEOP

1. CEOP will provide access to up to date resources to teach children about esafety issues.
2. CEOP staff will provide support by email and phone
3. CEOP will provide access to an up to date and age appropriate website
4. CEOP will supply trainers with regular updates that will inform them about latest trends, developments and upcoming technologies and possible risks that they should be aware of.

CEOP can expect the following from trainers and those using CEOP resources

1. Trainers agree to take part in an evaluation of the programme
2. Trainers will report back with numbers of CYP trained
3. Trainers will comply with the guidelines given to them for running courses
4. Trainers will comply with the CEOP Code of Conduct
5. Trainers will support the promotion of CEOP and the TUK brand
6. Trainers will not sell their services
7. Trainers will not cascade Thinkuknow training to their colleagues if they have not undertaken CEOP Ambassador training.

Trainers will always behave appropriately and in a professional manner – this includes not discussing the content of any training in public places and not behaving in a way that could damage the reputation of CEOP
