Keyboard access information

This page lists the accesskeys used throughout this website and are intended to help users who have difficulty in using pointing devices such as a mouse or who prefer to use keyboard shortcuts.

This web site uses the UK Government accesskeys system and the following information summarises each of the keyboard shortcut commands available to you.

The key combination you use will depend on your browser and operating system. Here is a list of the most common. If your browser or operating system are not listed, you should refer to your documentation for help with this functionality.

Browser access key combinations

Windows	Internet Explorer (v5+)	Hold down the ALT key, press the access key, release both keys then press ENTER
Windows	Firefox, Netscape (v7+), Mozilla	Hold down the ALT key and press the access key
Windows	Opera (v7+)	Hold down the SHIFT key and press ESCAPE, release both keys, then press the access key
Mac OS	Safari, Firefox, Mozilla, Internet Explorer (v5+), Netscape (v7+), Omniweb, Camino	Hold down the CTRL key and press the access key
Mac OS	Opera (v7+)	Hold down the SHIFT key and press ESCAPE, release both keys, then press the access key

The list below shows "Alt" for brevity. You should use the key combination for your browser.

Tab key

You can also use the Tab key on your keyboard to move between links on a page. A single press of a Tab highlights the next link, Shift+Tab highlights the previous link.

This site has been designed to conform to the WAI double AA rating where HTML is used. Where documents are made available in other formats, conformance has not been achieved.

Increasing text size

Some users might find screen text easier to read by increasing the size at which text is displayed. To do this you should simply adjust your browser's settings.

This tool is available in the menu of various browsers as follows:

• Internet Explorer 5, 5.5, 6 (PC): View > Text size
• Firefox, Netscape 8: View > Text size
• Opera: View > Zoom
• Netscape 6, 7, Mozilla: View > Text zoom
• Safari (Mac): View > Make text bigger
• Internet Explorer 5 (Mac): View > Text zoom

Changing colours

Users may wish to change the site's background colour further or change the colour of body text on the site. Both can be achieved by changing preferences in your browser.

Depending on your browser type use one of the following:

• Internet Explorer: Tools > Internet Options > Colors
• Netscape Navigator: Edit > Preferences > Appearance > Colors

Where possible we have included downloadable files in both Portable Document Format (PDF) and Rich Text Format (RTF), also indicated is the file size.
